Mayan Calendar
The Indications of the Mayan Calendar
The Mayans were a Mesoamerican civilization famous for the only known fully developed written language in pre-Columbian America, as well as their architecture, art, mathematical and astronomical systems. In terms of their long count calendar, one galactic day of 25,625 years is divided into five cycles of 5,125 years. The Great Cycle of the Mayan Long Count calendar ends on the winter solstice of 2012 A.D. In Mayan calendrics, the initial date that Earth entered the Fifth World was August 13, 3113 BC, written in Mayan long count notation as 13.0.0.0.0. Every day from that point was reckoned by the number of days passed since the event of this cosmic beginning point.
Dr. Jose Arguelles writes in praise of the Mayans in his work Time and The Technosphere that "August 13, 3113 B.C is as precise and accurate as one can get for a beginning of history: the first Egyptian dynasty is dated to around 3100 B.C; the first city, Uruk, in Mesopotamia, also around 3100 B.C; the Hindu Kali Yuga, 3102 B.C; and most interestingly, the division of time into 24 hours of 60 minutes each and each minute into 60 seconds and the division of the circle into 360 degrees, also around 3100 B.C, in Sumeria. If the beginning of history was so accurately placed, then must not the end of history, December 21, 2012 also be as accurate?"
For some, 2012 marks the end of the world, but many more look at it as a new beginning. For instance, Nostradamus wrote that he saw to the end of the year 3797. Likewise, the Book of Revelation sees a time when all evil will be ended from the world, and that period will last for a thousand years, the time that Christ returns and walks upon the Earth. Though the Mayan and Aztec artifacts do not tell of a time beyond the Age of Movement, their ancestors spun a tale of two more Ages to follow the Age of Movement. These are the Age of the Spirit of All Living Things, followed by the Age of the Return to Oneness- indicating that there is much left to do in terms of spiritual growth. As Dr. Wayne Dyer says, we are spiritual beings having an earthly existence. Come let us prepare for it in the only way we can, by repentance and acts of kindness to our fellow man and the whole of humanity.
