Hensley’s Ideas
In the beginning, the Universal Life Church was the dream of a man named Kirby Hensley who believed that religion was cramped and conservative in the world of his day. Hensley's vision for religion abolished the narrow scope of religion and preached a message of religious tolerance, freedom, and discussion.
Hensley was also known for cutting edge - and somewhat controversial - theological beliefs. A selection of his thoughts on these beliefs can be found in this section. While the ULC Monastery doesn't necessarily embrace these ideas in entirety, we feel it is important for our ministers to understand the perspective of our progenitor.
