Prophets and their claims as to their ability to channel the thoughts and desired actions of deities have existed in many cultures throughout history. Christianity, Judaism, Islam, the Sybilline and Delphic Oracles practices in Ancient Greece, Zoroaster, the Völuspá in Old Norse, as well as many other religious cultures have all had members of society that have either claimed the ability of prophesy or have been recognized by others as having some sort of connection with understanding, or foreseeing the future. Nostradamus is historically the most famous of prophets but there are many others too.
