History of the Universal Life Church denomination
The Universal Life Church history begins with Kirby J. Hensley. As the ULC’s founder, he contributed to making your online ordination presence possible through his ongoing belief in religious freedom. Dismayed by religious sentiment in 1959, Hensley formed the “Life Church” and began his search for the real meaning and message of religion, concluding that religion is entirely a personal matter not to be restricted to a single faith. His message was that a person should have the right to choose their beliefs so long as they do not trample upon the beliefs of others.
The Universal Life Church obtained its current name in 1962. Hensley’s tireless effort has made the Universal Life Church the pioneer and torch bearer of ordinations and ministries. More people are finding out about ULC.org and are joining hands in enhancing the number of online ordinations every day, including such famous individuals as John Lennon, Kathy Griffin and even the late Johnny Carson. Today, through the ongoing effort of The Monastery’s Presiding Chaplain, G. Martin Freeman; the Universal Life Church has doubled its online presence and congregations in the United States, Canada and many more countries throughout the world.
Freedom of religion is the main motto and ultimate message of the Universal Life Church.
